Episode 10: When We Listen to Our Longings

Sarah Guerrero’s Journey Through Feasting

The religion that I had grown up with was a religion of rules and do’s and don’ts. These are the steps you take to be a good person; this is what you do to show that you love Jesus; this is what you don’t do to show that you don’t love Jesus. You must demonstrate it in these ways. And that view of God and Jesus was coming in really steep contrast with the Jesus and the Holy Spirit that I was finding in the scriptures, and I was less and less able to reconcile those two things. I was coming to this place where I was going to have to make a choice, and I think that metaphor of the feast is what has helped me and given me the courage to choose, not the rules, but to choose love.
